Design Thinking has emerged as a major trend for how innovative organizations and teams are approaching problem-solving. This hands-on, interactive workshop explores the intersection between Design Thinking and project teams and will provide participants with a high-level overview of Design Thinking methods and tools. Participants will work in small teams and will learn about useful tools to use in a more agile, discovery-driven world. Case studies are used to show concretely how to integrate design methods into projects with lessons learned and unique outcomes. The workshop includes a warm-up rapid-fire sketching exercise and several individual and group hands-on exercises to expose participants to various design methods for user research, idea generation, visualization and prototyping. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants should be able to describe the benefits of incorporating design methodologies on projects for increased customer alignment and business impact and be able to illustrate multiple design-thinking tools that could benefit current or future projects.

Most people think that event-driven architecture is all about events. Services trigger events, asynchronously passing data to other services that respond to those events. But what about the underlying data? How much data should be passed in the event? Where should data be stored and retrieved in a highly loosely coupled system?
In this session, you’ll learn about the data side of event-driven architecture—from event contract patterns to the various database options available, including monolithic data, domain-based data, and service-based data. For each of these database options, you’ll learn the implications, coupling concerns, and tradeoffs involved, as well as techniques to overcome some of the challenges of sharing (and not sharing) data. Come to this session to learn the “other side” of event-driven architecture.
